Jardine Academy Private School

The Jardine Academy is an approved private school of the New Jersey Department of Education. It is operated by the Cerebral Palsy League and accredited through The Middle States Association. It is also the only M.O.V.E. (Mobility Opportunities Via Education) Model Site in the state of New Jersey.

The academy provides elementary and secondary education for children and young adults, ages 3-21, with multiple disabilities. The comprehensive curriculum is aligned with the New Jersey Common Core Standards and focuses on self-care, health and fitness, interpersonal skills, mobility and functional academics.

Our program includes:
  • Speech Therapy (All therapies are done in an integrated setting.)
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Physical Therapy
  • Specialized Nursing Services
  • M.O.V.E.
  • Music Therapy
  • Community Based Learning
  • Life Skills and Vocation
The state-of-the-art facility is designed to simulate a “Main Street” where students could practice and develop their community interaction skills. Some of the features on “Main Street” include a “Fun Zone” containing adaptive games and toys; a store; an apartment; a fitness center; and a library.

The Jardine Academy also offers an extended school year. The summer program is held in July and August. The program provides students with academic instruction, recreational activities and support services. The support services include nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, and social work services.

The Jardine Academy implements the international curriculum Mobility Opportunities Via Education (M.O.V.E). This research-based program was designed by Special Educator Linda Bidabe to apply motor science to improve functional mobility skills of persons with severe physical disabilities. The program objective is to enable participants to sit, stand and walk, allowing for fuller participation with family activities and inclusion in the community.

In May 2007, the Jardine Academy was dedicated as New Jersey’s first M.O.V.E. Model Site in recognition of the school’s commitment to both the program and its students. The academy now serves as a showcase for the M.O.V.E. program for educators, therapists and parents statewide.
